Jeff Pulver has always been into radios, whether they be ham, am, fm, or high-def. The entertainment Thursday night is Counting Crows, and today's keynote included Jim Bankoff and Jason Calacanis interviewing each other about how Live8, blogging and In2TV are changing the way people are using the internet to get their content.
While looking through the bag we got when registering we noticed a form which allowed all attendees to receive a Slingbox. Now normally you are lucky to get a good t-shirt from a conference, sometimes a nice bag, but a Slingbox has to be at the top for me personally. Sling allows you to watch TV from anywhere, which would have been useful tomorrow during all the NCAA tourney games.
One of the talks today had an item that captured my attention. Brough Turner from MIT, proposed that if the cell phone service providers allowed for interop for text messaging they would provide quite a challenge to the desktop messaging companies. I think this is interesting to consider, however as long as the cell providers are limited in the features they offer, it will be very hard to move people off of AIM or other services.
The day ended with a town hall presentation from some of the biggest players in SIP. Their presentation centered around the design of P2P SIP and some of the work being done here. Also, Henning Schulzrinne referred to a presentation made at the Blackhat Europe Conference last week that discussed reverse engineering Skype. It is fairly technical, but a very interesting document to read through.

Here is a picture of the Expo Hall. I was shocked at how many vendors there were, it put to shame Microsoft's PDC 2005.
