Last week we launch the latest AIM Location Plugin for AIM 6.0, though it will work with AIM Lite, albeit in a slower manner than AIM Lite is accustomed too. We have added some really great features to the latest plugin. The UI has been cleaned up and we fixed many bugs along the way.

The biggest development in this release has been the addition of Skyhook Wireless's API into the plugin. Skyhook basically interfaces with the WiFi signal on your laptop and via triangulation can determine within about 20 meters your location. Otherwise known as Loki, Skyhook has about 70% of the US population covered thanks to concentrating on wardriving the major US cities and their suburbs. What makes this technology appealing is that WiFi triangulation works very well in a dense urban or a moderate indoor environment versus GPS.
In my presentation last week at MIT I put an updated peak user per state map in my slideshow I posted originally in June on the blog. Since June our usage continues to grow so we have had to add an extra color to the map. Yellow is best, then green, then red, then blue. There will be some other location news coming soon. As always feedback is appreciated.
