A bunch of people around the office have been asking me to about the mashup I showed
last week at Mashup Camp. While I am still cleaning up some code and getting it in
good shape for release, I figured I would post a "teaser" picture. As the good engineer that I am, I walk into conferences with a melange of Open AIM examples, whether they be clients, bots, plugins, WIM pages, and now AIM Widgets. So I built a little AIM Widget using Boxely and and Open AIM and mashing in Flickr's API. I will get into the technical details when I actually release the widget, but for now a picture will have to do.

A few other fun things to share that I have found amusing or educational this week.
* Today's Washington Post Sports page had a great column from Thomas Boswell
on how terrible the Washington Nationals. It reads exactly the same way as the Cleveland Plain-Dealer did when Willie Mays Hayes and a young right hander from the
California Penal League were signed by the Indians. Baseball in DC...get excited!!!
* This winter has me baffled. The first 10 days of January I wore short sleeves and played golf, now we get snow squalls and wind chills in the single digits. So during some weather forecast checking, I found a great blog from a meterologist name Henry Margusity who works for Accuweather.com. His Meteorological Madness blog provides great insight into why we are all going through the mid-winter dolldrums.
* Last but not least. My Windows desktop needed to be restarted on Wednesday
morning, and when the system cycled, all of a sudden I smelled burning, and sure
enough a small puff of smoke appeared. I quickly pulled all my cords cutting power to
the system and the smoke disappeared. When I had our Internal Computing folks check
out the machine, we discovered that the video card had caught fire and burned a hole
through the card. I did a basic search on Google and found lots of reports on
batteries catching fire, but never found an instance of a video card doing it.
Between food poisoning, a computer fire, and blistering cold, I am ready for the
weekend.
