Just a few thoughts from the week that was and what is coming up this week....
- I mentioned back in January the Location Plugin we wrote will work with AIM Lite. Well I was incorrect when I said that. I am not sure we are going to have a fix for this, but I may just write a location plugin that works with AIM Lite.
- I saw at least one report of MusicLink not registering on Vista. Is anyone else seeing this issue? I could not reproduce this, though it's possible the administrator settings block the installer from calling regsvr32 on the dll. You can get around this by first copying xprt*.dll from c:\program files\aim6 to the install directory of the plugin. Then open up the command prompt as a administrator, and navigating to the install directory and register musicLink dll and wmpplugin.dll in that folder.
- Vista is a pain the rear for power users...as noted by my above comment.
- I am headed to London tomorrow where I will be at the Future of Web Apps Conference. While loading up my MacBook Pro with some music for the trip, I came across something called HandBrake which allows me to rip a DVD into AAC/mp4 format so I can sync it with my video iPod. Definitely some cool software.
- On Tuesday, I will be a guest on the pre-show for Top Coder's Single Round Match 340 for the Top Coder Open. I will be there to discuss Building Social Networks for Web 3.0 and also to answer questions on AIM and Open AIM, and what it is like to work at AOL.
- This week I am planning on doing the 4th post in the Tech Trends series, and also give an inside look at how plugin developers can view the preferences they are setting in AIM6.
