AIM 6.1.16.1 was released yesterday on beta.aol.com. Included in this feature are the following changes:
* The application now features a color picker that allows you to change the color of Buddy List and other related window elements. The picker, located next to Help menu on your Buddy List, includes 10 colors, including the default orange color.
* Another new feature gives you the ability to change the style of your Buddy List's groups and screen names. You can do this via your Settings window's Style tab.
* Sub-sorting of Buddy List groups has been implemented in this build. Simply select the appropriate menu item from a Buddy List group's right mouse button contextual menu to invoke this new functionality.
* Your Buddy List window can be docked to left or right of your desktop. You may turn docking on via your Settings window's Buddy List tab.
* UI changes have been introduced with respect to the way linked screen names are displayed in your Buddy List. The status button of all linked names should now be displayed at top of your Buddy List. Clicking a screen name's button will display the buddies associated with that name.
We made lots of UI changes in this release including how we display linked SNs, one of my biggest complaints since the Triton days. The pinwheel at the top that allows you to change the look of the application is a nice small step to allow for theming.
I will post screen shots later today, as the internet at the conference is too slow to upload pictures right now. As always feedback is appreciated.

I so very much dislike the UI change with respect to linked screen names. For me, it was much easier to look at all in one list. Maybe a better option would be to allow a choice between both options... display in one list, or display for one particular name?

Could we bring back the away icon for those buddies u might have alerts for that are set to away? maybe have the alert symbol on the right of the name?

the white gap between the status changer and the rest of the buddy list shouldnt be there. it looks really bad when you're away. there's a line there and then white space then the grey group header.
there should be more colors and some of the colors are too dark and they blend with the black font.
ive been saying for awhile that the white background behind the status changer looks unfinished. there should be some sort of gradient like one of the previous 6.0 betas....i think beta 2
the buddy list should be able to be narrower
i love the new buddy info window, images in profiles, changing buddy list font and the new linked screen names interface.
and i found a bug where when you sign off all the icons disappear. the aim icon in the corner and the max/min/close buttons. they all disappear when i sign off aim and go to the sign in window. -
One bug: Sometimes, starting with this new build, the "is now typing" white background doesn't get removed when the user stops typing. The typing notification text disappears, but not the background.

however, the rest of this version of aim is pretty cool.
i have no other complaints.
