AIM 6 Beta 2

I mentioned on Thursday that we were close to releasing a new version of AIM, and today we have a new beta release.  Available on beta.aol.com, this new release of AIM has a bunch of new improvements...

  • Connection settings: Having issues signing on? AIM can help you configure your firewall or proxy settings. Look for the Connection tab in your settings manager.
  • Status message in the Buddy List: Broadcast a personal message to your friends, even when you're available. Simply type your message in the field under your screen name at the top of your Buddy List. It will appear under your screen name on their Buddy List and when they hover over you name too. More status integration is coming soon.
  • My Quick Access Panel: Rollover your screen name at the top of the Buddy List and get one-click access to your settings, email, expressions and buddy info
  • Buddy Details: From the Buddy List, roll over your buddy's screen name and take action. Send a text message, call their PC, send an email and more. Don't forget to try expanding the form and save info for your buddy.
  • Tips from AIM: Did you know you could do that on AIM? Look for a tip on the IM window.
  • Updated Advertisement placement: Conveniently moved to the bottom of the Buddy List to allow easier access to your menus.
  • Text Message Mode: Don't waste your mobile phone text messages. Send them from AIM. Clicking the TXT Msg button on the IM form is just one new place you can access this mode.
The one feature I would like to point out is the addition of status to the buddy list.  If you are a music link user, and there a many out there, the song title and artist you are listening to will now be broadcast in the buddy list so your buddies can see the music you are listening too, and vice versa.  There will be a new release of AIM Music Link by the end of the week that will leverage a bunch of new stuff related to status.

As always feedback is appreciated.

Any idea when the beta will support aim phoneline?  Or is there any way I can edit my connection settings in one of the GA versions that does support aim phoneline?  6.0 is not supported behind my work firewall as is stands.

Is there a way to disable the status message in the buddy list?

Hey I see the UI has changed a bit and now I can't find the ID that changes the border around the "I'm Back" Button, which by default is yellow. I'm also looking for the ID for the round border around the invisible icon. I've looked through styles.box but it doesn't seem to be referenced there. I did however get all my custom skins updated for the new version.

    Just a follow up:

    1. The line break issue is only surfacing from sidekick users.
    2. The current version of musiclink seems to be having issues. It, eventually, clears the profile and starts listing the songs you've listened to endlessly.
