The buddy list has turned 10 years old, and while the buddy list can't speak for itself, I thought I would share a quick anecdote. When I first started at AOL back in 1999, I was put on the AIM project rebranding AIM clients for ISPs like Mindspring, Juno, and Earthlink. I accidentally had a screen shot of my non-AOL Business SN's buddy list posted on a very public website. Needless to say, my the buddies on that buddy list were spammed for months and months from strangers who IM-d them after seeing that screen shot. In any case, we have a very fun website set up to celebrate, complete with timeline.
