Girlfriends: Post Toni Childs Era

And then there were three.

Since the news broke that Jill Marie Jones would not be returning to the cast of 'Girlfriends,' fans have been wondering how writer and creator Mara Brock Akil would address the departure in terms of the storyline.

As you might remember, the end of last season had the self-centered "It" girl Joan missing Toni's hearing while Maya and Lynn were by her side.

Then all hell broke loose over the summer.

Jill left the show at the end of May due to an alleged contract dispute. And that reduced the Fab Four to just three.

While it is just the first episode of the season but the show is not the same without Toni.  They dealt with Toni not being on the show by saying that her, Todd and daughter Morgan were moving to New York because Todd received another reality TV show offer.

A part of me was hoping for a quick 10 second cameo by Toni but the episode ended with Maya and Lynn going to "send off" Toni to New York.

Womp womp.

Props for the opening where Joan was in New Orleans and running through the lower 9th Ward.

The images of destruction are something that needs to continue to be embedded into our brain until the city is fully functional.

Let's see in what role the show decides to use Christina Vidal who will be playing the role of a tough celebrity trainer.

And I won't even get started with the whole William/Monica angle...

I know a thing or two about chasing after women named Monica but hopefully Joan will finally come to her senses and realize that nobody besides William will put up with her crazy neurotic ways.

Will this be the last season of the hit show? Only time will tell…

Read an interesting article in the LA Times about how Akil feels her shows are being left out of the CW "clique" here.

i think that the show is still great even with out toni.  i mean yea she was a good character/actor but she just brought too much drama.  and besides its not like she made the show, the show can go on without her.  ands without toni it gives the audience a chance to focus on someone other than "those bossy heffas" (as william said this evening.  all im saying is jill is being missed but the show is still great without her
