Keys is Out of This World

Wow, I'm getting old.

Growing up as a 80s baby, cartoons, outside ‘Sesame Street,’ were on only to keep you entertained and to stay out of your parents hair.

Now with shows like 'The Backyardigans,' kids are being entertained and learning as well.

While I am under the weather and that does usually result in watching some pretty off the wall TV shows from your sick bed, the reason why I tuned in to Nick Jr. is singer Alicia Keys had a guest appearance on 'The Backyardigans.'

Let's talk about Alicia for a second. This is a topic of discussion that my friend and I have all the time.

Remember when Alicia first hit the music scene in 2001. She had that deep, rugged, I'm from Hell's Kitchen and don't mess with me voice.

Now look at her - doing the voice of 'Mommy Martian' on 'The Backyardigans.'

In the episode ‘Mission to Mars,’ Uniqua, (no lie) Pablo and Austin head to the planet Mars because they picked up a strange 'boinga, boinga' sound coming from outer space.
After arriving on Mars and finding an underground Martian city, they come across a baby Martian by the name of Boinga (played by Keys' niece Shakyra Lipscomb) and her mommy played by Keys.

Keys even broke out into a little song about Boinga called 'Almost Everything is Boinga Here.' If you get Cham on there to sing a hook about doing a dance called a Boinga, we could get it some radio airplay.

Kids learning about Mars before they reach Pre-K? And who said watching TV as a kid was a bad thing...

Kudos to Keys though - always good to see artists show off their inner child.

In case you missed it, the episode will re-air on Friday, October 13th at 10:30AM on Nick.

Ms. Keys is awesome. She's a spectacular, beautiful and talented woman. She's doing what many desire; exploiting her talents. That's what haters deny.

Yeah I give it up to her for doing her thing outside of singing. I just watched the sesame street when she was on there singing with elmo. I like to see the singers and actors doing other things postive for kids,

Kudos to Alicia.  She is showing the industry there is more than one side to here.  She is indeed a multi-talented young sista.  Keep up the good work
