Jason Whitlock, a sports journalist who I respect the hell out of him for calling out Scoop Jackson's ass, had a great column today on AOL Sports about 'The Wire.'

Thought I would pass along to my 'Wire' fans. Have a good weekend!

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!  I watch the Wire every week and look forwrd to seeing it!  I live in B-more and in a drug infested area. actually in the area that the Wire was filmed in and what's depicted is true.  This season really hit home.  The schools are often in chaos because of the corner kids, lack of funds, dedicated teachers, administrators, and polticians.  And so many of our children are raising themselves because of drugged out, or incarcerated parents.  Roots educated us about slavery and the impotance of family.  The Wire is educating us about life today.  Let us not forget where we came from but let us also not go back to slavery because of lack of knowledge.  What can we do as a community and a nation to stop this genocide.  This is not a black or white issue or just something that is going in Baltimore.  It is an issue of many of inner cities in the USA.  It has become a world issue just like AIDS.  Let find ways to cure this ill.

as a lot of u have said the wire was written by 2 white guys. well thoughs two white guys worked and knew the people that these characters are based.

One was a narc then he became a teacher in the same school this season takes place. the other was a newsreporter. i don't think they glamorize or make it more than what it is.

i live in philadelphia and right now we are in a war zone. the murder rate is 450 so far...most are drug related.  at 22 alot of my old classmate are gone, it so sad. that if you don't live in these conditions it easier to turn a blind eye. people think it doesnt touch them until they loose someone to senseless gunfire. then they want justice and before they could care less.

I have followed "The Wire" since the first season, with all the technology the police have this show is so realistic.  This show lays out the blueprint to how the law can catch any drug dealer.  Yet even with the show I can't believe how people still goes into the drug dealing business.  FOR ALL DRUG DEALERS/ THUGS/ CRIMINIALS YOU WILL GET CAUGHT, JUST WATCH THE WIRE.  IF THE LAW WANTS YOU THEY WILL GET YOU, HELL IF THEY CAN CATCH SADAM, THEY CAN GET YOUR PETTY DEALING ASSES.

Iwatched 2  of the first three season of the wire, couldn't relate to the one with the white folk at the docks though, but this season is my faavorite. Yes it moves slower than the other seasons that focased on AVon Barksdale, but truth is most of the people I came up with never made it to that status. The highest rank I made was close to bodee's. That is probably why he has been my favorite character form the start. And these young kinds that got in this season remind me of the earlier me , before I got caught up and dropped out of high school. Yes i know this show was started by white guys but it seems to be black directors who sesationalize the ghetto. Remember all those in the hood movies from the 90's? most of those were by black people and they still didn't get right, but this show does. I got my GGD, went to college, and became athe 30 year old  Engineer that I am today, but my teenage years made me the person I am. And this show brings back those days pretty well. So for all you detractors, SUCK MY DICK OR MY 40 CALIBER HAND GUN!!!! Which ever you preffer.
