A Family Full of Drama on 'Hair Trauma'

Today you will see the softer side of 'Everybody Hates Marcus' Not only am I'm going to tackle the 'Oprah Winfrey Show' again, tonight is also the 'Project Runway' season finale and the second episode of 'Hair Trauma.'

'Hair Trauma,' the new hair salon reality show on WE might as well be renamed 'Hair Drama.'

Because that's all the show is - Drama!

New York City is the home of LaVar Hair Designs which is owned by celebrity stylist Ellin LaVar.

I'm never really impressed by the whole celebrity stylist title but when Ellin started talking about how she used to do the late, great Miles Davis hair, she is worthy of the title.

(After looking at the photos they showed of Miles Davis ... him and Flavor Flav, separated at birth? I'm just saying...)

Ellin hires her siblings, brother Jeff and sister Kim, to work at the shop with her. That's mistake #1 right there. Never mix business with family. I love my family but you won't see my brother coming close to sniffing this blog.

Episode two, which airs tonight at 10PM ET/7PM PT on WE, deals with the renovation of LaVar Hair Designs. The first episode Ellin was very proper and formal as she talked about the shop and her employees.

But when the contractors started playing with her money, look out, Ellin thought she was back on 'The Avenue' in Mt. Vernon, New York where she grew up.

Playing with my money is playing with my emotions, Smokey - Big Worm in 'Friday'

No kidding.

But 21 days later and a few choice curse words later, the shop is complete and back open to some of her superstar clients such as Venus Williams, Susan Taylor and Whitney Houston.

Reason #482 why I am glad that I'm a man and not a woman: It takes a lot of time and money to get your hair done.

I appreciate $10 bucks for a dark Caesar a lot more after watching 'Hair Trauma.'

In case you are wondering, LaVar Hair Designs is at 134 W. 72nd Street in NYC.

I love "Hair Trauma."  My hairdresser and I rehash the episodes at every one of my appointments.  I have to say, I admire Ellin.  No matter what you say about Venus and Serena's hair (and yes, I agree), she takes care of her family.  Whatever Kim's problems are (or were), Ellin's got her.  Jeff, too.  You should look up Hazella's website.  They went through a lot when she had a stroke.  Who knows, after all that time away from his game, maybe Jeff can't get back out there like he wants to.  But I think it's cool that "big sis" is looking out for them all.  And whether she admits it or not, it's probably good for her to have her family watching the business for her.

I didnt even know the show existed until Marcus. I watched it tonight. It's interesting compared to the Johnathan one. Most black folks can relate to the blk salon experience; the down to earth the personality and ambience. You don't see much of such stuff on tv and on reality shows. MTV tried to do the same before with the Shop. I like this one better.  The feel of the shop isn't as intimidating as the name, price, and clients would make it seem. Even though the Serena and Venus weaves are a joke. It looks like regular ol' tracks. Not like beyonce or Tyra. But at least she keeps her's together.

So... congrats Ellin on making it.
