The Great Black Hope on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'

Sen. Barack Obama, the 'Great Black Hope,' was on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' this afternoon.

And naturally the question on everyone's mind is 'Will Barack run for President?'

Even Oprah couldn't get a definite answer out of the Democratic from the state of Illinois as he explained that he was focusing on November.

During the hour long interview Obama talked about his trip with his family to Africa and how he managed to find time to write another book and also represent the state of Illinois.

It's only Wednesday but to steal a line from VH1, Barack Obama is having the 'Best Week Ever.'

His second book, 'The Audacity of Hope' is in bookstores today and Oprah was just the first stop of a media blitz the politician has this week.

In case you missed him, you can catch him on 'Larry King Live,' and 'Meet The Press' along with donning the cover of this week's issue of 'TIME' magazine.

AOL had two polls today on Obama's chances on becoming President:

The first question being 'How bright is Obama's future?'

63 percent voted his future was very bright.

The important question though is 'Should he run for President?'

(Out of 152,218 votes)
36 percent said heshould run but not in 2008.
35 percent said he should run in 2008.
29 percent said he should never run.

There are three things I learned in college: Don’t discuss politics, religion or HBCUs so I will leave my personal opinion out of it.

Remember, I’m the guy who is not even registered to vote but I will say this…

…if Obama ever decided to run for office, then I will become a registered voter.

    Sen. Obama
I dont agree that you are the great black hope I truly think you are the HUMAN HOPE!!!!! You are a man who I have seen everwhere and each time I see you, you bring so much hope inspiration and drive to many in the USA! I must say you are definetly a refreshing breeze of hope in manys eyes. You stay so humble grounded and BEAUTIFULLY HUMAN!!!! Even with all your success in life it touches me that you take out so much time for the biggest success' in your life YOUR FAMILY, many fail to see what you continue to realize. Life is about JOY Jesus(J) first Others(O) second and Yourself(Y) last! i must also say its great that you not only go to shows just on CNN or so forth but real shows like OPRAH it show your for the people. I want to conclude by saying my mother is 54 years old and she has never voted a day in her life. She said to me the other day that she sent her voter registration in and I asked her what changed her mind about voting and she said if Sen. Obama runs for President I wanna be able to vote!!! How amazing is that.
Thank you YOU GREAT HUMAN HOPE

Obama has a compelling story: His father was a member of Kenya's Luo tribe, born on the shores of Lake Victoria. He met Obama's mother, who was white, when both were students at the University of Hawaii.

With all due respect to Barack Obama his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention was exceptional. I said "Who Is This Guy?" "People will take notice and that he definitely has a future." I remember saying the same thing about former president Bill Clinton too. I would like to see Obama run for president in 2012 or later. There are alot of well spoken, educated african americans in our country...but can they run an entire kinda mixed and mixed up (USA) country for the people all the people? Not to mention the foreign policies. They'll have to pick up and change or correct the left overs of past presidents and poliltical colleagues while trying to get their own visions implimented.  I think he needs more experience under his belt. I never say never. There is always a possibility he could win in 2008 if he ran. (If he's on the 2008 ballot, I will vote for him.) But what would the real reasons be.

Is it his looks? (Handsome) Although he is African American, some people won't see him as that because he is of mixed race. They will see him as just Obama. Is it  that  speech from 2004 that they remember? Would the Democratic party want him to run to keep Hilary from running thinking he would have a better chance of winning over her or any other candidate especially Republican? I have alot of respect for this man, but if it was a choice between Hilary Clinton and him, I would have to vote for Hilary.  He would get my vote in 2012.

I have nothing but respect for Oprah. We also must do our own research and come to our own conclusions on any topic.

Come on, Marcus!  It only takes a few minutes to go and register to vote.  Even if you can't go register they can send you the paperwork in the mail and you send it back.  BUT, you have get off your rusty, dusty behind and go vote, you can't mail that in, unless you're in the military and vote absentee.  It doesn't make sense for people not to vote, unless you're a felon (are you?).  Too many people died for this privilege!

In regards to Barack Obama running for President, I think he should wait until 2012 also.  I remember when people were hoping Colin Powell would run, but his wife Alma, didn't want him to because she knew politics, and knew it would get ugly and drag the family through the mud.  But, I think Mr. and Mrs. Obama would look good in the White House.  I also agree with the previous poster about Harold Ford from Tennessee.  He has a bright future as well.  Obama/Ford, Ford/Obama, Powell/Obama, Powell/Ford, I'll take any of these combinations!
