Victory and Tragedy Within Minutes of One Another
Big Brown, a beautiful horse, just won the 134th Kentucky Derby by about 5 lengths.
Coming in second was the filly, Eight Belles, my personal favorite.
Sadly, on pulling up, Eight Belles collapsed. They just announced that she had broken both front ankles and was immediately euthanized before even being taken off in the equine ambulance.
Thankfully, Eight Belles' jockey was able to walk away.

I can't bear to watch an animal racing for our entertainment. This is so tragic and unnecessary. It's barbaric in this day and age.

I was so disturbed by seeing that, Lori. As much as Ken and I have always enjoyed watching the races, I just can't stand to see anything like that again. (We watched when Barbaro broke his foreleg.) I hate to say it, but I think I'm done with watching. It makes me cringe every time I see it on the news....

I realize that 'they shoot horses' but that was so sad.
