Pigeon in the toilet
"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in
others; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Lol, Kas. Talk about up close and personal with nature! Isn't homeschooling great?!?
Jane
It sure is. :-) I think that my children learned a very valuable set of lessons...to keep the lid on the toilet shut (I keep trying to make sure that the baby is safe from accidental drowning) and also how to care for someone with hypothermia...get them warm by using your own body heat. But this was nothing as "up close and personal" as when I pumped my own milk to feed an orphaned baby Indiana Brown baby bat! I've also donated milk to orphaned kittens and squirrels. :-) It doesn't really seem strange when you consider that we humans drink the milk of cows, goats and camels.

Poor DooDoo! He is such a sweet bird.
He IS! I was surprised by how affectionate and kind he is for a wild animal. I love the way that pigeons coo. His voice is very melodic. I was also touched to learn that pigeons mate for life and are very loyal to their mates. There is a breeder of white homing pigeons in Cincinnati who has offered to let Mandy visit. She is very interested in starting her own coop for flying homing pigeons. (DooDoo has a permanently injured wing and is a wild pigeon). There are literally hundreds of fascinating websites on all the different breeds of pigeons out there. I'll try to list some of them for people who are interested.
