Aikido :Sean Raisor's class

Mandy trained in Sean Raisor's class on Saturday at Aikido of Cincinnati.   Mandy was touched and surprised that Sean sensei noticed the nasty scratches she has on her forearm and questioned her about them at least twice. (She still has seizures at night sometimes.  She woke up with her arm bleeding. I think her "poison" ring scratched her arm and belly during a seizure. It has prongs on it.)  Mandy was anxious, though, about what Sean thought.   She said that she was afraid Sean thought she was cutting herself. I pointed out that he is not stupid and that she is a bad liar (she told him she "fell.") He probably sensed that she wasn't being truthful.  Anyway, I called him the next day to thank him for caring enough to ask about it.  That's one of the things I have loved about Aikido of Cincinnati all these years--it really is like a family.  She really could have been a young girl in trouble.

We did know (distantly) one thirteen year old girl who was cutting herself.  She was a friend of Merridith's that Mandy met at a  few parties and went to a Sharonville Saddles and Paddles overnight with.  The girl goes to public school.  Apparently she had been having oral sex with some boy from school  (at thirteen!!) and when he dumped her she really struggled with it. She relieved her tension by cutting herself.  Poor baby. I am so thankful that I have kept my girls out of school and that many of these situations don't even come up in their lives.  They are more protected than school kids in many ways, but that is a parent's job--to protect her kids.  When they are older they are better able to protect themselves.

Anyway, we put triple ointment on the scratches.

Mandy was particularly delightly because she mustered up the courage to ask Sean Raisor Sensei to her sixteenth birthday party next week.  Mandy has idolized him since she was only  eleven years old.  She said she walked up to him after class when he was folding his hakama and asked if he would come. He told her he wouldn't miss it.  She is GLOWING.
