more bird watching
As I've mentioned before, Shelby's obsession with birds has led me to watching them a great deal myself. After all, she is too short to look out the window by herself. I have to hold her so she can see them. Lately I just let her sit on the kitchen counter and look out the window at the bird feeder. The Lonesome Robin is still hanging around. It usually sits in the cherry tree, looking fluffed up and miserable. The Lonesome Robin never eats seeds from the feeder, but today I saw it eating parts of a frozen apple. The mockingbirds are still staking out the apple tree as their territory. I hope that more of their babies survive this year. I think Blackberry and Mama Green Eyes ate a few of them last summer in retaliation for the constant dive bombing. We even fitted the cats with belled collars trying to protect the wild birds.
I've also been spying quite a few red tailed hawks and owls by the side of the road. They are easy to see this time of year while they perch on the bare branches. I always slow down and point them out to the girls.
