Dental Work and Whining

Yesterday I went to the dentist (whine, whine, whine) and had the two teeth prepared for crowning. This means they ground them down to little nubbins.  I tried very hard to be still while he was injecting the shots into my sore teeth (ouch!!) but I was shaking like a leaf.  I don't know why I am so scared of the dentist.  I gave birth without anesthesia--which is certainly more painful than getting crowns--and yet I was braver in childbirth.  I do know I had a mean dentist as a child who smacked me once. (I never leave my children alone with medical practitioners.) My mouth was so sore I took a Vicadin last night, which left me in a a comfortable stupor.  Shelby and I cuddled together for about four hours on the couch while the rest of the family drove down to Lexington for the UK game. Shelby is such good company.  I am so much more relaxed as a mother this time around--even without the Vicadin:::laughing::: and I can truly enjoy being with her.  She makes these happy little humming sounds when she nurses, and I like to bury my nose in her peach fuzz hair. I love the way she smells!  Shelby is especially affectionate and sweet when I have lots of time to just Be with her. We count noses and belly buttons and toes, and I nibble on her ears and smell her belly...she laughs and laughs.

She has began stomping her feet when she is frustrated.  It is pretty cute, and I have to hide my smiles since I don't want her to think I am not taking her feelings seriously.

    I am lucky that I have an excellent, gentle dentist now.  His name is Dr. Grady Gibson and he is down here in Newport.  I heartily recommend him to anyone in the Greater Cincinnati Area who is looking for a good dentist.  I was very fearful of going to the dentist for years, but he is very good.
