Hearing Franz Ferdinand "Take Me out"
Tabitha's hair fashions and torture chamber
Little Stephen arrived promptly at 2:45 PM, announcing that school was out for the year and that he could stay here until nine o'clock. Stephen tugs at my heartstrings, so I let him in.
A little later I asked Mandy what they were doing and Mandy replied in the most casual and off hand manner, "Oh, Tabby is doing Stephen's hair." These are words to curdle the blood of any veteran mother. I stepped out on the porch to see Tabby spraying what SHE thought was hair spray onto his hair. It was a cheap Bissel version of Febreeze. His very short hair had been stiffened with Peppermint scented Foot powder, and lightened (gulp) with that spray on streaking stuff made to create blond highlights.
After I got his head all cleaned off they wandered upstairs to play. I hear loud rumpuses, so I hollered for them to come downstairs. Stephen is holding a puffy red eye that has been wacked with a pillow. Tabitha tells me, supremely confident of her diagnosis, that he has scratched his cornea.
Poor Stephen. I made him a cool compress and he wandered away with Tabby, no doubt to some other equally enjoyable activity.
