Feeling Quiet

a gallon of paint....

It's been a looonnngggg day. The girls went to an excellent class about constrictor snakes. Tabitha came home all excited, telling me that she saw a snake as big as a school bus.  Well, actually, what the man said was it can grow as long as a school bus....but it was a large anaconda.  He feeds it a GOAT a month in the summer, and a goat every other month in the winter. They also got to pet a ball python and a few other constrictors. One peed on Tabitha.

 About.com: http://www.skunks.org/

The skunk, Lucy, is settling in well. She is so cute. She uses her litter box just like a cat, even covering her droppings. The greyhounds show no interest in her one way or the other. She is not keen on them, but not worried enough to move. She is the fattest animal I have ever seen in my life.

Owners Of Pet Skunks: Deciding to Own? I had worried about how long her claws were. They do need to be trimmed, as I learned from surfing.  She also needs a more varied diet than the dog food she is eating. She adores cheese and will eat happily out of your hand. Mostly she just sits in your lap like a cat.

The girls were helping me move the indoor plants back in for the winter along with Alex and Patrick, the two boys that have been hanging around for the past few months.

Have I mentioned that my house really is not that messy--it is cleaner and neater than about eight out of ten homes I go in---but that this does not extend to the girls' bedroom, though. It is a sty.

They have the entire third floor to themselves, and I often don't go up there for days at a time. It is basically hard hat territory.

I did not know that Tabby had set a GALLON of paint on the hardwood steps, with the lid only loosely, barely on. The steps also had stuffed animals, books, records, tapes , puppets, pillows, pictures in frames, a rug...well, the boys were carrying something heavy up for us, knocked over the gallon of lavender paint, and latex paint spilled all over the place--coating not just the hardwood steps, but stuffed animals, a baseball mit, books, a rug, puppets, cassette tapes....etc.  Their attempts to clean things made a bigger mess since they stepped in the paint and tracked it all over the steps, the floor, the carpet, the television room, the bathroom tile...it took five solid unrelenting hours of effort to clean it most of the way up. My hands are swollen and my throat is sore. I am allergic to latex. My favorite jeans and my favorite hiking boots are spattered with lavender paint.

Life.

We were supposed to go to a field trip at the brand new Underground Railroad Museum tomorrow. I am not sure if I will be able to get up--or get the girls up--since it is four in the morning and we are all just cleaning up ourselves at this point.  I am also hoping that the benadryl will keep me from getting any sicker.

For a stay at home mom, I have a lively life.

That sounds like a mess...but at least you were able to clean most of it up.

Yikes! about the paint. I would take one look at a mess like that and move. Really. I would just move out. LOL ;-)

I just wanted to let you know that I happened upon your blog a few weeks ago and have been reading it ever since.  I'm a homeschool mom to 2 little ones.  I do things much differently than you.  I'm not so relaxed, which is a quality I really admire in a hs mom.  I enjoy reading about your life.  Here's my blog if you'd like to check out mine.  http://www.juliapadg.blogspot.com

I *love* skunks! I think they are gorgeous animals and I can't wait to see yours! Also, yesterday I went to the house of one of the kids from the show, and as I was standing inside, I looked around and said to myself, "This reminds me of the Ridimans' house...except worse." :-) And, eep, sorry to hear about your Latex Incident and hope you feel better soon.
