Feeling Happy
Turpin Farms: Petting Farm Animals
We spent the day Friday at a local farm, Turpin Farm, on a homeschool outing. Shelby in particular loved petting the goats, calves, chickens, kittens and pigs. There is no animal that is a stranger to her, no animal undeserving of love and a hug. Her sweet nature draws animals to her naturally.
The older girls were in the corn maize while I took these pictures, but they enjoyed feeding the animals too. In fact, the farmer was kind enough to give them a bucket of food when they ran out of quarters at the feeding station that was dispensing hand fulls of sweet feed.
The pigs were enjoying squashed pumpkins. I felt saddened by some people's comments about the pigs. Hogs are very intelligent animals, the most intelligent on the farm. They are friendly and smart most of the time, and while they have an odor, it really isn't as objectionable as an unwashed human. I'd rather smell a hog than an unwashed male arm pit any day.

Great photos! I have our recent farm trip photos linked in my most recent journal entry. I have many more of Ty feeding the animals that I didn't post. I think that was his favorite part of the day. He seemed to really love the goats the best. :-)
