We visit Cincinnati Ballet backstage

Today was the behind the scenes tour at Cincinnati Ballet.  After getting completely lost in a neighborhood I thought I knew well from my horse drawn carriage driving days, we arrived about ten minutes late.  Luckily, they had waited for us. The tour was full of homeschooling families we knew, which is always a plus.  We saw the front office and ticket sales, the physical rehab room for the ballet dancers, the big practice room where lots of slyph-like dances were stretching and sitting between classes, looking a lot like my greyhounds, the offices...and then we got to watch two different rehersals for Peter Pan.

Mandy and I both agree the male dancers have lovely tight little butts.  :-)

It was great fun to watch the rehersal.  Peter Pan is such a charming ballet, and it is always interesting to see how the dancers communicate the story without words.

Mandy has been attending various ballets since she was five. We have seen many of Cincinnati Ballet performances, from Carmen, Nutcracker, to modern pieces.  I love to watch the beautiful bodies and dancers.

I took several years of ballet in college, since it was only graded on attendence.  I made the Dance majors look good, so I was welcome.  ROFL

The sword fighting made me long for Aikido.  They may be more graceful than me, but their sword fighting is for the stage. I could Kick their butts.

LOL

Sounds like a great tour.  To answer your girls' question: some operas will use ballet dancers (or flamenco, for "Carmen", let's say)-- sometimes they're a bit older or people who aren't quite as good technically... in one of the first operas I did, they had some soloists from the Kirov Ballet (Russian) and they were awesome.

And you're right, usually stage sword-fighting is not so scary, but I have seen some that is amazing, very dramatic and realistic.  :-) Albert
