Feeling Worried

What I have in my dining room is an Eastern Garter snake(scroll way down)

Garter Snake Eastern

I knew it was a garter, and so I did some research to find out just what KIND of garter it is.  At this time of year it is probably a male, since they leave hibernation earlier than females.

We set up a heat lamp and a little soaking pool for the poor fellow.  He looks quite content now.  Some reading on the internet told me  to coat his wound with betadine and then put triple ointment on it.Apparently, they love slugs and earthworms, so he will be easy to care for emotionally.  I can deal with feeding him those, as well as the occasional minnow!  There is a high probability he came out of hibernation, was too cold and sluggish, and then whatever it was attacked him.  They don't do well below seventy degrees.

Two great homes have offered for Lily--but the girls are miserable at the thought of parting with her.  She IS a sweetie, and no trouble.   Oddly enough, I got a call tonight about another skunk.  Maybe I can give IT to the zoo.   LOL

We probably wouldn’t worry about what people think of us if we could know how seldom they do.

We saw our first garter snake in the yard the other day:) He was quite small & almost had a run-in with the lawnmower. Apparently they have some sort of tunnel system next to the house. I love the fact that even though we are in the suburbs there is such a varied eco-system around if you take time to pay attention to it. Yesterday we saw a pair of Mallards in the creek---what a treat:)
