Feeling Frustrated

Webring help????

Raccoon Eating Apple

Is there anyone out there who can help me figure out how to do this?  I'd like to be able to join this webring and put the link in the "about me" section...

Hello hestiahomeschool,

We see that you have signed up with WebRing and have supplied us with a website, but that website has not been added to any Rings yet, probably because the proper navigation code isn't in place on your website. We've got an exciting new offer to help you get started with WebRing.

Let US at WebRing help promote your site and get you added to at least one Ring! Once you're safely in at least one Ring you should be well on your way to being an active member of a growing community of websites focused on the topic of YOUR website.

What will WebRing do? We'll match your website up with good prospective Rings and encourage the managers of those Rings to add you directly to their active site list. Once they do you'll begin getting more exposure because nearly all of our Rings are listed by topic in the major search engines.

What you won't have to do:

  • Pay anything. The service is FREE because we want to get your site into a good Ring, where it belongs.
  • Search for suitable Rings and apply to each one.
  • Get lot's of email about joining instructions (If the Ring's manager wants you in, you're in).
  • Wait for acceptance for weeks or months. Ring managers looking for new sites will approve you right away if your site matches the Ring's topic.

What do you have to do to qualify for this service? Not much. All you need to do to get started is add navigation code to your website. Here's the website we have on file:
http://journals.aol.com/hestiahomeschool/HomeschoolingJournal/

and here's a link to get the code you need to add, as HTML, to the site shown above.
http://www.webring.com/navbar?f=g;y=hestiahomeschool;u=defurl

Where should the code be placed? Somewhere on the page listed above is fine. The idea is to place it where the information that will be of interest to the Ring's manager is. The easier it is for them to find what's on your site, and the closer your code is to that information, the more likely (and SOONER) you're going to be added to Rings.

If you're having trouble placing the code on your website this help page may have what you're looking for:
http://dir.webring.com/help?nextpg=Frag1

Important note: If you place the navigation code on an entry/intro page, or on al links page, you need to make sure that you can return to that page once you go to the site's main page. Otherwise, people cannot continue navigating the Ring when they are done visiting your site.

Once the code is correctly on your site you will see some form of "navbar". Either a generic WebRing search box in blue, or perhaps a pending or suspended "navlet" if you had tried to join a Ring previously. Don't worry about either one showing - that's a GOOD sign. It means the code is working correctly. Once you are placed in a Ring (or if you join one yourself) that code will be replaced by the code for whatever Ring you join.

You should also log in and check that the title and description of the site that we have on file are correct for the site, as that is what will entice people to surf your site (and the Ring's manager to ADD your site of course!). The more descriptive your title and description the faster you'll get processed, almost without exception. Conversely, if you leave the title and/or description blank we'll have a hard time and it will take longer.

If you want to edit your information, or decide that the URL above isn't the best place to put the code, simply login to your account and edit the URL, title and description fields for the URL entry above. It's easy, just:

  • Go to your My Rings page. You'll probably be there just by logging in, but if not, look for the My Rings link at the top of the page after you get to WebRing and are logged in.
  • Click on the View Web Sites link you'll see on the left of the page. This is where you go to modify any website information you have.
  • Find the URL you'd like to change and click on the Edit URL settings
  • Change whatever you want. Most likely the URL, Title, and Description. You can leave the rest alone for now. Default settings are good until/unless you join a bunch of Rings. Be sure to check the check box next to those fields yuo do change.
  • Click the save button and you should be all set.

You can login any time here: http://dir.webring.com/login
Get help here: Technical Support/Help Forum or here WebRing Help/Support

Best wishes,
The WebRing Team

Ok The about me section will not accept that html code. If you make a homepage using Easy Designer you can use the code there. The only way I can see is to put this code http://ss.webring.com/navbar?f=l;y=hestiahomeschool;u=defurl in your favorite link section. And use WEBRINGS as the site name.

This is a problem with AOL Journals. They block many types of HTML code (I guess they don't want you to imbed porno movies or use redirectors to bounce people off someplace else and whatnot). I haven't tried to add anything more to my About Me in a while because they had such a low character limit. I saw one journaler mention that the limit had either been increased or done away with...but I haven't tested that. So...depending on this webring code, you may or may not be able to do it. You should just be able to copy the code off the page and paste it into your About Me edit window (in HTML view).
