Feeling Happy
Aires the garter snake is fine in the "wild"

We released the garter snake in the back yard next to the pond a few days ago. Since then I have fretted that we should have returned him to the spot where he was found (or close to it, since he was found in the middle of the road injured). Today when I went out to check on the baby turtles (fretting over them) the snake was stretched across the top of a bush, sunning himself. So I guess he is alright! I still might have the girls recapture him and release him on the Fort Thomas Tree Trail where we recently saw three garter snakes. The girls are lobbying for leaving him in the enclosed garden where he is relatively safe from predators. Maybe for awhile, until we are positive he is healed. The external wound closed up well, but there is no telling what the internal injuries were.
