today's letter to Geoff Davis, my Rep.
I was saddened when I contacted your office by phone earlier this week and they said that you had not decided whether or not the support the bipartison Sweeney Spratt Agricultural Appropriations Amendment to stop the slaughter of American horses for human consumption overseas.
The way these horses are killed is brutal and cruel. The state of California has already outlawed it--I would like to see the rest of the country follow their lead. Kentucky, in particular is the Land of the Horse. We should be at the forefront of this movement to outlaw shooting horses in the head with four inch nails, and then hanging them up by their legs and cutting their throats while they are living.
Americans do not eat horses, just like we do not eat our dogs and cats.
Please consider supporting this bill to protect horses. Every Kentuckian I have spoken to--and there are many--are appalled that we are using American tax dollars to pay for USDA inspectors to inspect horses in a foreign owned factory slaughterhouse. Most were unaware that this horrific practice is going on, and disgusted at the thought of American horses being killed to be eaten.
Sincerely,
Mrs. David Ridiman
