Feeling Happy
Wiggly active little boy
Last night Darren was more talkative and active, keeping up with the motor mouths on my three daughters--which is saying a lot. He raced around the dog park with the Greyhounds, shouting and sweating and playing. I suspected that he had not been taking his Adderal, and Tabby said they had "forgotten" to give it to him for the past three days since it makes him feel bad. (Tabby was in charge of giving it to him since they wake up an hour or so before me. She never "forgets" anything. He hates the way it makes him feel. He doesn't eat until after eight at night and he doesn't move for the first few hours).
I have to say that it is a joy to see a wiggly, loud, active little boy, that pounces on the other girls to tickle them, laughs out loud and tells stupid twelve year old boy jokes, and even playfully bantered with me about the merits of violent movies at Blockbuster (to no avail. No slasher movies in MY house.)
What his grandpa calls "jabber-jaws" seems perfectly normal to me. I am sure that if my children were in school they would want them on something, particularly my vibrant, active Tabby. She can focus easily when she needs to, but she is very active.
This is verifying my suspicion that Darren is Gifted, and not particularly ADHD. He did test as Gifted at school. I will ask his grandfather to let him have a vacation from drugs when he is at our home.
I like him, just the way he is.

sounds like an excellent idea. My stepson was put on ritalin, which made this very skinny active child a nervous wreck at least his mother saw fit to take him off it. Keep up the great parenting...rose

I would talk to the doctor, not the grandfather who loans the boys out.

Becky, Your comment just confirmed to me that Darren should not be taking it. When he takes it he literally just....sits...for hours. He does not talk much and his eyes look glazed.
Adderal can be very valuable to a child that truly needs it, like your son. I think Darren does not have ADHD, and it affects him badly.

It sounds like he is doing well and that is great....I have to say I love slasher movies myself though. :)
