Feeling Hopeful

Civil War Program at the CIncinnati Museum Center

Everyone is trying to accomplish something big, not realizing that life is made up of little things.

- Frank A. Clark

My family is planning on attending this. The whole family is very interested in the Civil War. (I think the fact that we watched the wonderful Ken Burns series on the Civil War is how Shelby ended up being named Shelby, after the great historian Shelby Foote)...anyway, my dear husband collects Confederate stamps. His great grandfather rode with Morgan's Raiders. My family's land in Kentucky was the site of a Civil war skirmish.  Kentucky tried to remain neutral during this tragic time, but remained bitterly split.[photo]

Does the way you teach the Civil War every year seem stale? Are you
> looking for a fresh approach to the Civil War, the gravest crisis to
> ever confront the United States?  "A New Nation Forged: Legacies of
> America's Civil War" rests on the assumption that the long-term legacy
> of the bloodiest conflict in our nation's history can be fully
> understood only if three, not just two, perspectives are taken into
> consideration--the Union, Confederacy and African American.
>
> The program will be sponsored on October 27 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the
> Cincinnati  Museum Center in cooperation with The American Civil War
> Center in Richmond, Virginia.  The program is offered free and is open
> to students as well as teachers.  Teachers can receive CEU credits....
>
> The mission of The American Civil War Center, now in development at
> the Historic Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, Virginia, is to tell
> "the whole story of the conflict that still shapes our nation."  The
> Center will be a place of discovery where Americans can explore
> clashing views of our nation's pivotal event and come to terms with
> its larger meanings.  "In the Cause of Liberty," the Center's
> permanent exhibit knitting together Union, Confederate, and African
> American narratives, is expected to open in mid-2006.  The Center's
> website is www.tredegar.org
