Feeling Happy

no chemo, no radiation!

Well, yesterday I ventured out for the first time in ten days. I went to the surgeon's office to get my staples out.  He was surprised to see that there were only three  left out of the thirty six.  (Why?  I called and told them that they were ripping out). He said he was surprised I was able to remove them. I didn't! As I fell over laundry, tripped down steps, and fell in the shower they pulled out.

He did explain that the reason why my leg hurts so much is that I must have pinched  nerves when I was in stirrups for so many hours during the surgery.  While it is not common, it does happen, and he says if it does not go away in three months to let him know. Gulp. Since my left leg buckles completely unexpectedly under me when I walk, sending me sprawling to the floor or hanging desperately onto something for balance, it is going to be a real problem. I think I will use a cane or walking stick.

Still, the GOOD NEWS:  da-ta-dah!  The uterine cancer was only stage one and  was completely contained, so no chemo, no radiation!

Dave and I even went to my favorite Japanese restaurant to eat. My beloved favorite waitress was there, a charming older Japanese woman who fusses over me and helped me to the bathroom and told David he was a very "rucky" man to have such a beautiful, young looking wife.  :-)  She tickled me by remembering that I love origami and brought me a little origami basket filled with three of the tiniest little swans you can imagine.  I could only eat three tiny pieces of a smoked eel roll, but it felt so good to be out and about.  My New Year's resolution was to make more time for my marriage, and David seemed very happy to have my attention focused on him during lunch. A few sips of his plum wine, combined with the Vicadin, helped me manage to sit up for the lunch.

I paid for it in spades today, so sore I could not even get out of bed unless to pee.

Julieanne came over last night and plopped down on my bed and I had a wonderful visit with her. I held her prisoner until after one AM, but it was so fun to have a girlfriend over.  Tabby and True played together, making lots of origami things. The best thing about the surgery is that my girlfriends have been bringing us food, and spending time with me. Jenny Jones and Vickie and Barb and Kathy and Julianne and Laura have all visited me and brought meals. Also, the relationship with my mother-in-law has healed a great deal since she wants to help so desperately and I need her help. So, a lot of good things will come out of this whole thing! (Not to mention not peeing in myself and not dying from cancer!)

Great news a about the no chemo thing.  If your leg starts hurting a lot, try biofreeze maybe...I use it all all my body's aches and it helps.  Glad you were able to get out a bit too and that you have such great friends to keep you company.  :)

This is very good news; I'm so happy for you and your family, Kas.  As you continue to heal, I'm sure you'll feel that this whole ordeal was well worth putting yourself through.  And isn't it so true that every cloud truly does have a silver lining?

Yah, we especially like the "not dying of cancer" part!  I am so glad all was well!  Don't you love when docs don't remember a thing?  "Yes, you saw my daughter in the HOSPITAL.  And you don't know why we have come in for a recheck?!"  Makes me nuts.  I'm glad your friends and mil have come through for you.

great news!  I am glad that you and David even got to "celebrate" the good news with a delicious sounding lunch!  Did you take the leftovers home to the girls?  Although I am sure Tabby would consider it "weird" food!

Did the incision look ok, despite the staples pulling out?  I know you were concerned about it last week.

I'm SO GLAD you don't have cancer. :-) I wanted very badly to come and help you with stuff, but...yeah. My bleeding colon thinks otherwise. I love you! *hugs* (I would offer the use of one of my many walking sticks, but you'd have to promise that absolutely nothing would happen to it, and I'm not sure if you can make that promise. *g* Offer stands, though. One of the ones I'm thinking of is pretty sturdy.)
