Horse crazy
"Learning about our horses is learning about ourselves as well, seeing how our personalities mesh or clash with the horses we choose to ride or train."
-- Linda Tellington-Jones, Getting in TTouch: Understand and Influence Your Horse's Personality
There is no question that all the women in this family are besotted with Dakota...she is such a personable little horse that we cannot imagine life without her..I do think the men (both my husband and Mandy's boyfriend) are a little mystified and jealous of our time and attention that we lavish on the horse.

She can be a stinker. Mandy is accustomed to very quiet, not extremely bright horses. Mandy opened the gate and stood in the opening taking Dakota's halter off....not wanting to venture into the very deep mud. (Instead of going into the gate, and closing it behind her first, and THEN taking the halter off, as would have been wise. ) Once her halter was off, Dakota just wheeled around and took off for the green grass outside the pasture. She would let us get right up to her, and then trot a few paces away. However, the little chowhound came right to us when we reappeared with a bucket of grain.
Mandy is having a steep learning curve with this little mare.
Dakota is so winsome and funny it is impossible to be frustrated with her..even when Mandy got bucked off we realized that we needed to check the tack and see what was going on.
Another great aspect of the barn is that the little ones get to play in the hay, roam the fields, play on the shavings....get the benefits of country life...

The outside of a horse is good for the inside of ANYONE! And the lessons they teach! Personally I have "let" many a horse out due to my inattention. Once I had 11 horses running on the road. I managed to get 3 back in the pasture ( I was alone) and the rest headed for the highway. I scared up a posse and we found them at the next farm down. But I wasn't happy with myself.
