Feeling Happy
Hearing Our Dyson humming downstairs, sucking up dog hair
Colorado Winery
We spent a lot of time at this wineshop--the food was excellent and in managable proportions. I could only eat appetizers my whole time in Colorado. I can see why Colorado is the skinnest state in the Union. The altitude makes it difficult to eat! The first four days I barely ate anything, just gulped down huge amounts of water. We would wake up in the middle of the night just overwhelmingly thirsty. It was like when I was diabetic, only worse. We kept jugs of water bedside. Jodie told us to take Rolaids, and the calcium carbonate did seem to help. Other people told us not to use salt--and then some told us to load up on salt. The first night my head hurt so badly that I took Percocet.
Still by the end of the week we had acclimated to living at 9500 feet, and felt very good. None of us were ready to come home, especially after meeting the mountain Oompha Loomphas. Dave seemed to be making some serious noises about moving to Colorado. It really is a very beautiful place.
The wine shop was a fun place---Dave could sample wines (I don't drink alcohol, however most people never figure that out since I act half-intoxicated naturally). The kids loved the creek. There is not much open water in that part of Colorado. We are used to a huge amount of water around us for an inland state--did you know Kentucky has more little lakes and ponds than any other state? So it was very homey to sit by the rushing water. We saw lots of sapsuckers.
The wineshop people reassured the kids that the local bears are black bears, and not grizzlies. This calmed Tabby down a wee bit. after seeing The Grizzly Man, she was a bit anxious about being eaten by a grizzly. Of course, a black bear just killed a kid a few hours south of here, so all bears deserve respect.
Shelby "accidently" dropped her toy lizard in the creek, making it necessary for Tabby to rush in and rescue it. Hehehe

Kas,
That has to be the most beautiful photo of a dandelion I've ever seen! I love the contrast between the red and yellow. Nice shot. Glad you had a great time.
Tomorrow would have been the start of our vacation, but Mary-Beth's Mom fell and broke a hip back on 4/7. Now she's living with us. Life has gone through some MAJOR changes for folks that were used to living up to my nickname, "Mr. Weekend"
