Feeling Mischievous

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Tapeworm

Yes, that is a single tapeworm, and yes, it came out of a human.

BBC NEWS | Health | Invasion of the Bodysnatchers   When my dear husband was in pharmacy school, he came home completely disgusted one day.  "Did you know that one in three Americans has worms at any given time?"   I thought about it, and I wasn't surprised at all. After all, we worm our dogs, cats, horses, pigs and sheep regularly.  I worm raccoons and possums for roundworms. We are mammals, too. So why wouldn't we have worms?

My daughters caught pinworms from the neighborhood kids once.  How did I know WHICH neighborhood kids?  They were the ones with their hands in their pants, constantly digging at their butts.  Pinworms are passed from human to human via unwashed hands.

Think of that next time you touch a public bathroom door handle.

Pinworms is a nice child oriented site explaining pinworms and why you need to wash your hands after you go to the bathroom.

This is my public health service announcement for the day.  :-)

You most definitely can get tapeworms from beef, pork or fish...
