Feeling Happy
Hearing Blue's Clues
identifying human emotions unit study
Sometimes we are engaged in an informal unit study before I connect the disparate threads and realize that we are looking closely at a subject! Ever since the girls decided they wanted to learn "Super spy" skills, I have been emphasizing that spies need to be acutely aware of other people's non-verbal communication. This was particularly apparent when I learned that the MeterMan from Hell was surprised he upset me so much.
He apparently is lousy at reading non-verbal communication (or else he prefers not to ).
Shelby also needs to be able to express how she is feeling, so this all ties in well together. I spent a very happy evening a few nights ago studying "micro-emotions", which you will be hearing a lot about in the next few weeks. :-)
I do believe that one of the keys to harmony in the world is not only being able to accurately read how other humans are feeling, but to understand how we ourselves are feeling!

As a teacher, I can second the vote for teaching children to know their own feelings and to understand others. I taught this in Headstart classes starting with photos of the very basic emotions such as: fear, anger, happy, sad...It's so important and would make for a better planet of adults with less work for therapists and anti-depressants needed~Peace, Deb
