Feeling Quiet

The Titanic Unit Study

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”- Revelations 21: 2-4

This was read on the deck of the Titanic as the ship was sinking.  One of our longest lasting unit studies is of the Titanic. When I was on bedrest with Shelby's pregnancy, we watched literally about twenty fictional and non-fictional accounts of the sinking of the great ship.  We bought many books, puzzles, an infamous Titanic board game, and a needlepoint kit. We had Titanic playing cards, Titanic cookie cutters, and other peculiar wonderous purchases via e-Bay.

We've had two Titanic parties.

We re-watched the recent movie the other night, after reading a wonderful article about the pillaging of the sink site in the National Geographic.

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the might ocean deep
It's own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Christ, whose voice the waters heard,
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked on the foaming deep,
And calm amid the storm didst sleep;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Holy Spirit, who didst brood
Upon the waters dark and rude,
And bid their angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Trinity of love and power,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

Hymn for Travellers and the Absent
William Whiting, 1825-78

    sad words...powerful though.  We're fascinated with all things Titanic here too...I remember learning about it when I was in school, then of coarse when the movie came out with Kate Winslet, there was Titanic  info everywhere.
