archery lessons

I managed to set up some archery lessons at the Corryville Community Center for just three dollars a lesson!  The bows, arrows, and targets are provided. We are having a very good time learning to shoot.  Yes, even uncoordinated mom gets out there and tries her hand at archery. I find it very meditative, much like tai chi. It is also very hard on my incision, though, and I only do half a class before sitting down in pain.

Both Mandy and Tabby hit a bulls-eye the very first time they shot, which leads me to believe they might have a knack for this. My very first shot hit the upper part of the target and bounced off. I am always a slow learner. I am the worst in the class, as usual.

There is an adult's class following this class in the evening. I am hoping to lure my husband into attending it sometimes....I think archery could be a fun whole family activity. The girls are already agitating for their own bows (which start at around two hundred dollars).  They will have to wait a while for that...

I am also checking into the local 4-H shooting club, where they might get more exposure to archery.

The instructor showed us her fancy bow (two thousand dollars!) and a few other bows.  We are thinking of getting a traditional long bow for re-enactments.  We are very pleased with the quality of instruction the girls are receiving here. The instructor hopes to make the Olympic team.Apparently Cincinnati is a hotbed for US archery since the "best archer of all time" , Darrel Pace, is from this area.

One longtime homeschooling mother told me that this is the best homeschool activity she has ever participated in!

Wow!  I only ever learned to shoot on a non-compound bow.  The price is right!

How fun! I remember doing this at summer camp. I had a knack for it and it stuck with me throughout my life. A few years ago we stayed at a PA resort that had archery as one of the many activities available. I've still got it! LOL It's nice to know I can still hit the target pretty consistently.
