Nothing to trip over....

Well, it was very strange this morning, getting up and not having to worry about tripping over anyone. Blanche would always fall asleep in the most awkward places..the middle of the hall, directly in front of the bathroom door. I would always have to carry a flashlight with me so I wouldn't trip over her. It was very odd (and sad) to not have to worry about that happening this morning.

But life goes on, of course. We had a very quiet evening. We went out for a quick dinner because hubby stayed home (he was really upset about Blanche's demise) and I am never prepared to cook on a Wednesday so we went and had some BBQ. It was fine. And then we watched my favorite stupid show, the Roto-Rooter Ghost Hunters. They are such idiots that they are funny to watch. (And they take themselves sooooooo seriously).

I am planning on going to the gym today and make a quick stop at the commissary for a few small items. I also want to go by Home Depot to get s nice Gerber daisy for Blanchie. There's a place on Alpine Road that has a zillion different garden sculptures. I am going to stop there and pick up a little doggie headstone for her.

I was really surprised at how nice they were at the vet. They put her in a little white coffin-shaped cardboard box with a sweet card and a couple of silk flowers on top. It was really nice of them/ We put her in our little pet cemetery area with all the other dogs. She had the special $2.49 funeral. (But with the trip to the vet, the accoutrements, and inflation I think it is actually going to turn out to be a $3.99 funeral).

That's it....I left the cockatiels outside last night. It only got down to 53 degrees so I think they were okay, It is supposed to be 80 today. I need to get out and get everyone fed. I am going on post but there is no rush.

Bye for now.....

I still think you all did the right thing for Blanche.  When my mother's cat passed away, she was inconsolable for awhile.  The ground was too hard to break, we didn't have a mattock or a tiller and it was January.  To beat it all, I was coming down with pnuemonia anyway and felt awful.  I spent my entire paycheck on cremation.  They mailed her (the cat) back to my Mom in a teeny tiny little tin that she still has to this day.  I'd have dug that grave for her back then, but just wasn't able to at the time.  My husband lost a dog he'd had for 15 years this was before we  married.  He's still sad over it sometimes.

Hope you all have a good weekend,
