THIS IS A GREAT PHOTO OF THE PIER AT MANHATTAN BEACH. EXACTLY WHEN THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN, I AM NOT SURE, BUT IT IS RECENT. NEVERTHELESS, IT COULD BE ONE THAT WAS TAKEN IN THE 60S. THE PIER IS TIMELESS IN THAT RESPECT; IT HASN'T CHANGED ITS BASIC STRUCTURE.

THE STRAND...along the coast of South Bay there is a ribbon of concrete called the strand, a virtual reality of paradise for those who never grew up beside the golden sands, a place to cherish, a place to meditate; it is a stretch of a permanent vacation.
