"Dual Frost" from davelafs's AOL Pictures Public Gallery.
Visions of the Lewis and Clark Expedition: a few thoughts about Dave's "Dual Frost" Photo, by R.L. Huffstutter
Really like the two distinctive images; there is a real space between front and back, a difficult fete to achieve in the dimensional realm. Great photo. This is a beautiful photo, however it is not what I would call a morale boosting photo because of its serious and factual information about the cycle of life. This is an emotion that would not be experienced by anyone under fifty because one doesn't usually accept the mortal nature of man until around the age of fifty. Nevertheless, a masterpiece, a photograph that clearly signals that the art of the photo is... in the mind of the photographer... not in the finger used to snap the photo. The title, a perfect label for such a photo, is unique because of the various definitions it allows. For example, by reading the title and viewing the photo, I can imagine Ol' Man Winter, Jack Frost, a day on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, or being lost in the Rockies. Yes, the title is fitting and well thought out. Congratulations are due the photographer for both photo and title. Thanks, Dave, for another great image for curious minds to ponder and admire.

"Giving Way" from davelafs's AOL Pictures Public Gallery.

THE ART OF PROPER CAPTIONING: An Essay by Earl R. Stonebridge
Photograph of a leaf in elements by David Kyle Craig; he has chosen to title it "Giving Way"
Earl R. Stonebridge, International Caption Writer has chosen to call it: "Leaf of unknown origin entrapped in elements of an unknown origin but could be powdered sugar, coarse soap granules, salt crystals, or snow.
CAPTIONING PHOTOS TO PLEASE EVERYONE AT ALL TIMES IS DIFFICULT, BUT IT IS A WORTHWHILE EFFORT. Depending on what the photographer is trying to create has much to do with the caption selected. Sometimes it is best to omit captions altogether, an idea that would have made the above photo less controversial, but without the attention it is now getting. Nonetheless, the photographer put a handle on it and now comes the public to settle this casual exercise in word verbosity and winter entertainment, a kind of solitary scrabble. Without viewers, the photos in the various galleries would be of no value.

NATURE CREATES ITS OWN WEB OF DESTRUCTION TO KEEP THE LIFE CYCLE CONTINUING...LIFE IS CRUEL...THINK ABOUT IT...WE DO NOT LIVE BEYOND OUR LIFETIME IN THIS BODY WE ARE IN...RIGHT NOW. WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS? I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM GEORGE WASHINGTON, YET I THINK ABOUT HIM AND READ ABOUT HIM. HE HAS SENT NO LETTERS TO ANYONE. THERE MUST BE, THEN, A GULF THAT SEPARATES THE LIVING FROM THE DEAD. IS THIS WHY OUR ANCESTORS DECIDED TO BEGIN A KIND OF BELIEF THAT WOULD GIVE US IMMORTALITY BEYOND THIS LIFETIME. YES, THIS MAY SOUND ZANY, BUT LIFE IS ZANY...THINK ABOUT ANYTHING TOO MUCH AND ONE MIGHT GO BONKERS...THAT IS WHY THERE ARE SO MANY BONKERS REHAB UNITS. BUT IS THAT SAYING MUCH FOR THE PROBLEM?
