THIS DAY IN HISTORY...FIFTY PLUS YEARS AGO TODAY

MOTORISTS OUTRAGED, VOW TO TOW BOYS AND VEHICLE ALL THE WAY TO HELL...

TWO LOCAL BOYS CAUSE TIE-UP IN SMALL TOWN'S ONLY DIRECT ROUTE OUT OF TOWN...

tourists and motorists enraged by accident that blocked their speedy exit out of town's only way out..."Get us the hell out of this one-horse town," said one man in yellow sports car on his way to West Coast for tryout in Rebel Without a Cause...

TIMMY DUGGINS AND BOBBY LEE, TWO LOCAL YOUTHS WERE CONDUCTING TIME TRIALS IN DUNLAP YESTERDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1952, WHEN THEIR HOME MADE CONTRAPTION, A SLOPPILY CONSTRUCTED FOUR WHEELED VEHICLE MADE OF TRASH LUMBER AND CHICKEN WIRE, SPED OUT OF CONTROL AS THEY ROUNDED DEAD-MAN'S CORNER, WENT AIRBORNE AND LANDED UP-SIDE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EVENING RUSH HOUR. PINNED IN THEIR RAMSHACKLE VEHICLE, THE BOYS GROANED AND GIGGLED AS MOTORISTS CAME WALKING UP TO INVESTIGATE SAID DELAY. "All we want is out of here and the sooner the better," one man stated to the local driver of a milk truck who had stopped to assist if needed. The matter was resolved in short order and upon arrival of a Sheriff's deputy, the matter of farmer Svenson's missing roll of chicken wire was solved. Those inconvenienced by the incident were relieved and ignored the friendly hand waving of several bystanders as they made haste to get to the main highway.
