As the title of this personal work implies, there is yet another novel that has space reserved on the shelves of America's bookstores. Exactly when it will become the subject of critical reviews is not yet known; what the cover of this great American classic will suggest has not been revealed, but those who live to read fiction can look forward to a novel that will become another favorite.

<P>"When we were boys, there wasn't one of us&nbsp;who didn't own at least three or four,"&nbsp;Earl said as the interview began. I must have expressed more than a trifle bit of shock. </P>

FOR SOME REASON, when the thought about the great American novel comes to mind, I clearly view visions of a country road leading to a distant farm somewhere in the background. It's the road, however, that captures my attention. Am I in the picture? I see no images of anyone, just a dusty road that looks like a vehicle has just passed, stirring up the dust and gravel. I don't see a vehicle anywhere, but somehow I sense it was an old pickup truck. And though it is not visible, it is somewhere in the picture; it has to be on a part of the old road that is hidden between two hills. As far as my presence in this scene is concerned, I am there lest such a view would not be possible. I am there, either in person or in spirit. If there is another dimension that permits such a vision, it is possible that I am in this dimension, but that is, for the moment irrelevant. I cannot explain the physics of a concrete sight in scientific details, but I have no doubt that the scene exists in reality and is not simply a figment of my imagination. Molecules are involved; elements are units of the sight or scene that becomes the vision my eyes observe and relay to the conscious mass of cells that comprise my brain. That such grey matter nurtured by energy consumed by me in the form of a gourmet dinner at TGIF'S or by a Mc Donald's QuarterPounder is another fact that could be studied for a lifestime, but I accept this event and its consequences without a thought. This is all a part of this experience we call life. Life is a uniquely individual experience and how much time we want to dedicate to its mysteries depends on our curiosity. To make life an experience that is a joy requires me to accept such scenes as my life and times.
