Jammin'

It's Friday afternoon, I have to go pick these raspberries now and make more raspberry jam.  Anyone want to help?  Toast with jam anyone?

Here's a set of ATC's I just mailed off for a Swap-Bot Childhood Memories swap.  I had to make 6 total, for two partners, each partner got 3 ATC's.  This was a great ATC swap, as I really enjoyed coming up with the card ideas...I had more than enough memories!

The laundry ATC is a clothesline, as I remember hanging up clothes by the ton.  Literally by the ton, weight-wise!  There were nine children in our family so there was plenty of laundry at all times.  I do remember how I hated that job...but I like to sweep, does that make up for it?  The ATC in the set I really wanted to make, but couldn't get it together, was an Ironing ATC.  When I was young my mother had me iron pillowcases.  One day when I was much older, and had my own home, I recalled ironing pillowcase and said, "What in the world did I have to iron pillowcases for?"  LOL  I think my mother was teaching me how to iron, and/or the pillow cases were not the no-iron kind we buy today.  Does anyone remember ironing pillowcases?   But, it's a sweet memory, unlike that laundry on the clothesline!  I couldn’t think of a way to get an iron on an ATC so I went with the mini-clothesline.

The next in my series is the Gingerbread ATC.  My mother always made gingerbread cookies at Christmas!  OH how I loved those cookies!  I remember working in a department store at Christmas time (Walker Scot, in Southern CA) and coming home late at night, exhausted from all work.  Everyone would be asleep and I'd sit by the Christmas tree by myself and eat the cookies off the tree that she had so carefully hung.  Good memory, sweet memory.  The apron I added was just for fun.  The recipe on the ATC is the actual gingerbread cookie recipe in my mother's handwriting.

Then the final childhood memory ATC card is the "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep".  I had wanted to make a musical card, as music was very important in our home as I recall.  Then I wanted vintage children, but anyway, this was the card that sort of evolved with the materials and time I had!  I'm happy to share these few memories with you, and explain my ATC cards!

It was with tongue-in-check I lashed out at Amazon yesterday!  I think they think I spend too much time making desserts and think I should start making better meals...for example, what's on the counter now?  (Flour tortillas and a can of refried beans!)  I can cook, honest!  I just prefer to bake!

I had a bunch more photos to share, but I've run out of time in the day!  I have berries to pick, jam to make, dinner to "find", a movie to watch and ....Haagen-Dazs Rocky Road ice cream waiting in the freezer!  Mark was heading to go to town today for a battery when I stopped him, batted my eyes and said, as nice as I could, "Don't come home without something for me!"  He knows me well: he brought the Haagen-Dazs.

Blessings!

Wow!!! Your raspberries are beautiful!! You have so many of them! Sounds like you can quickly whip up your jam recipe, if you're going to do that, fix dinner, then settle down with a bowl of your favorite ice cream and a movie! I love your adorable ATCs!!! The little vintage children are so precious! Where do you get your darling pictures? Your childhood stories are touching. What a sweetie you were, helping your mom with all that laundry! Love, Sallie
