Aprons and Princesses

Aprons.  My grandmother always wore aprons.  My mother often wore aprons.  I frequently wear aprons.  I have plenty of aprons, some new, some vintage, some handmade, but all loved and adored.

Today in the mail I received my March issue of Romantic Homes.  Just when I was wondering if I should continue to subscribe I get an issue like this!  It's filled with inspiration and good story.  For instance, a real story, "Some Like it Vintage", was almost a tear jerker.  I must visit her website soon.  I'm reading this issue slowly, it's all about color and you know how that subject scares me.  Which is where I'm sort of heading today...color...and aprons... Yes, watch me stitch the two subjects together!

In said magazine, on page 11, are listed the TOP TEN Kitchen Color Combos.  The top #1 color combo is "Earthy beige and white".  I have to tell you, they're right on, because that's what I painted our kitchen in!  When I repainted our kitchen a while back (fall '06) I wanted a COLOR.  Gasp!  But I could not get any further than whites or beiges.... This is a true story!  So I pick a real pretty beige, which was selected because it LOOKED almost mocha-y!  I repainted all the wood trim a fresh crisp white, I wanted it to "pop".  I liked it, and still do!

Here's a picture (there's a set of these on my Flickr, if you want to see more):

One of the pictures I posted showed some of my aprons.  I didn't paint this room beige, yet, it's the pantry, and I never got to it.  Buy my aprons are hung here:

Which brings us back to aprons.  I thought of my aprons when I was reading  "Bloom Right Here", which is sort of ironic for Vanessa, as she now is getting ready to move, to a new home in a new city, and I think it's scaring her.  I know she'll follow her own advice, and she will BLOOM in the new place.  Mary Engelbreit made this quote so popular, "Bloom where you are planted!"  Anyway, Vanessa showed us her pretty vintage aprons, go take a look!

For Christmas last year my sister, Sue, gave me The Apron Book.  Which I love.  I love looking at the photos and reading the stories. The book is also filled with sewing instructions on making aprons.  There's even an apron pattern included in the book!  There's also instructions (page 60) on how to make a basic child's apron!  Won't Ellie Grace look so dainty in an apron (that someday I will make for her?)!

If you peek on the side of Ellie, you'll see a few of my vintage Maids of Honor dancing around a candle...just for fun!  Anyway, back to Ellie, I love her smile!  She's looking at her mom, Melissa, in this photo.

Speaking of Ellie and princesses... Melissa called the other day and said, "Mom, when I asked for a daughterI was sent a Princess!"  Oh, talk about bringing tears of joy to my eyes.  Aren't daughters fun?  (Sons, too, but we're talking aprons today, so we'll talk daughters..)  Melissa had read that quote in a magazine or catalog and said I should paint it.  I did (to be listed on my eBay store soon...):

And speaking of princesses and what they wear... Ugg boots!  Our Princess Jessica had wanted a pair for years, and finally this Christmas Mark and I went to our local Ugg boot shack and bought her a sweet-lookin' pair, fit for a princess!  She loves them.  You can't see in the photo above, but Ellie is wearing a pair of Pink Ugg boots, all princesses should wear pink Ugg boots!  (They aren't Ugg brand, but Ugg style!)  And, one more thing, today is Missy's birthday, go tell her Happy Birthday!  AND, if you want to see Missy all dressed up in her princess ugg boots take a look at her picture here, which her BFF Nicole has posted today!  Happy Birthday, Missy!  We're going to talk more of Missy in a few days, more of her FREE Teddy Bear pattern...which I've made two of already...more later!

Time to go run errands and finish up work!

Blessings!

*Heidi*

Oh, one more thing then I'll hit the SAVE button... Here's a quote (by Lily Tomlin) that really just wraps up WHO I am, in case you were wondering...who I am, I am somebody....

"I always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific."

I love that Lily Tomlin quote! There is something so sweet and nostalgic about aprons...I always feel closer to my grandmother when I remember to put one on. Your little Ellie has a smile that lights right up. Adorable. Susan

Heidi, your kitchen is so beautiful! I love the openness to it. And I do love the colors. You've been one busy little gal :0)
I need to add my name to the Wish List for a pair of Ugg boots. My SIL bought a pair for her little girl-I'm going to see if I can snag them once Alyssa has outgrown them. But Mommy here wants a pair all her own!!
Thanks for all the comments. I'm really hoping after the baby comes that I can get up with you & join some of the yummy swaps you're always in. I really want to keep those creative juices flowing!!
