Don't Call It a Comeback, We've Been Here for Years...
Dante Hall may have returned a kickoff for a 96-yard TD in the first half but payback's a bitch! He just can't seem to hold on to the ball here in the fourth quarter :)
And so goes the story of the Eagles-Chiefs showdown at Arrowhead. The first half was all Chiefs, leading by a score of 24-6 at one point in the game. I won't lie, I was screaming and cursing at the TV with the rest of the City of Brotherly Love. My sister texted me at one point in the first half and my only response was, "We need a big play." And that's exactly what we got.
Larry Johnson coughed up the ball late in the 2nd quarter and from that point onward, it was all Eagles. (That's just Kearse showing a little love.) The half ended with the Eagles down by a surprising margin of 24-13. I say surprising because they probably should have been down 44-6 based on their level of play in the first 30 minutes of the game.
Dawkins amped up the Eagle D at one point and declared, "They will not score another point on us." And they didn't.
This is when leaders step up. Sheldon Brown with 2 INTs. Donovan with his third straight 300-yard passing game (is this guy still hurt or what?). T.O. with a TD and several crucial catches. L.J. Smith totally stepped up to the plate and became McNabb's go-to receiver on Sunday. There were no lack of heroes in this come-from-behind victory.
So, am I concerned that the Chiefs were able to rack up so many points on us in the first half of play? Not really. Am I concerned that the Eagle D was practically non-existent against the run on the first couple of Chief's drives? A little. But they adjusted. That's a tribute to the coaching staff. More than anything else, I'm relieved. Not because we beat the Chiefs but because we were forced to come from behind to chalk up a W. This high-powered, passing offense is used to scoring quickly and scoring often. This victory shows me that my Birds are capable of facing adversity and coming out on top. After all, isn't that one quality you like to see in a Super Bowl champion? Yeah, me too.
And so we travel to Dallas to take on the faltering Cowgirls. I foresee victory in this divisional matchup. Yours truly calls a 31-17 victory.
Leave me a comment while you're here.

What most people did not see was the really poor play calling by Vermeil... He continued to use Gonzalez as a blocker instead of taking the short over-the-middle pass. Also they dropped the run because it got stopped a few times. Those "student body right or left" runs were phenomenal. Trent Green is a short pass specialist. He can't make consistent long passes because he isn't very mobile. I think Vermeil
has to step down. He's not coaching football in the 80's any more. The game is much faster and much tougher and he can't keep up.
That doesn't take anything away from the Eagles comeback and demolition of the Chiefs in the 2nd half.
Look for the Birds to demolish Cowboys and Bledsoe. They owe him from the PATS years.
