InQuestOf Canine Diabetes
My fat little Peppy-dog has diabetes, we just found out yesterday. He got his first insulin shot yesterday at the vet's office, and this morning, I had to give him one.
The needle is very fine, and I don't think he felt the needle go in at all, but he did jump when I shot the medicine in. I wonder if I did it too fast and it stung? The vet didn't say anything about how slow/fast to shoot it, he just showed me how/where to stick him. And I'll have to do that twice a day.
He is in for a rude awakening, too....bless his little canine heart. This is a dog who is largely unaware he is a dog. Now, his diet will consist of a more natural, no-sugar-added dog food, and an occasional treat that is not the "good" stuff he used to get. And the worst punishment of all? No more "people food"! How unfair is that! My poor little (fat) Peppy! Since he got sick, though, he's lost about 3 pounds. We just need to get about 3 more off of him.
I looked for a pic of Peppy, but I can't find one (I'm at work right now.) Speaking of work, I guess I better get at it.

So sorry to hear about Peppy!
Hope we get to see a pic of him soon....
We never give Beau people food...we knew
once we started it would be hard to stop...but most
of all we didn't want him begging for food while we ate
dinner.... (I know we are mean owners...haha)
Wishing the best for Peppy....
Hugs

Sorry to hear about Peppy.... but that is one reason I started doing WW for myself. I didn't want to develop diabetes and then have to go to natur, no-sugar-added dog food myself... <grin>

Poor Peppy.....and Meggy, too. You can still give him people food, just give him the healthy stuff. My dog does not care what she gets, as long as she gets something!!! We give her carrot sticks, fresh green beans, Cheerios, lettuce, ice cubes....a lot of stuff like that. Also, you can get all kinds of recipies to make healthy dog snacks.
I hope he accepts the changes easily and that the insulin goes well. Life is juts not fair at times, is it? :(
Pooh Hugs,
Linda
