Paul Harvey News and Comment

Okay, so it's only Kellen O'Grady News and Comment, but you get the idea.

I was saddened over the weekend to learn of the death of actor, Charlton Heston.  "The Ten Commandments" have always been apart of our Easter Celebration, and who can forget epic movies like "Ben-Hur"?  May his soul rest in peace.

Charlton Heston
4 October 1924 - 5 April 2008

When I logged on this morning, I read news that the torch in the Olympic Relay in Paris had been extinguished twice due to protests.  Protestors, countries, political groups, etc are using the Olympics to boycott the Chinese government because the Olympics are hosted in Beijing.  As I ponder these events and mull them around inside my head, I wonder why the world wants to protests the Chinese by damaging and hindering a symbol of peace.  It seems like the Olympics are always a time of reflecting on nation relations...the fact that athletes from all kinds of societies can come together like this is astounding.  I know the US has boycotted an Olympics before, and right off the top of my head I can't remember why we boycotted them then, or why there are so many protests against China today.  (I do know it's basically the Chinese occupation of Tibet.)  I guess I just wish we could have this moment of peaceful competition unhindered by politics.  Maybe that's just not possible considering the gravity of the issues.

I am comforted by world unity in one sense, the greatest sense: Our Eucharistic Lord in the Catholic Church!

Well Kellen, for my part I wouldn't mind if we boycotted.  But my reasons are more to the fact that they are still a communist regime.  And moreover they use forced sterilizationa and abortion to strictly regulate the size of their families.  These are government enforced practices.  As for the Chinese people....I have no problem with them.

That is sad about Mr. Heston.  But he was blessed with a full, long life and an honorable legacy.  -  Barbara

Kellen, honey, a couple of things of note.  Maybe you are right, maybe we shouldn't be protesting the Olympic torch.  But you ask why there are so many protests against China today.  I need you to promise to do something for me.  Please listen to this YouTube video.  I couldn't find a good article, LOL, so you will have to settle for YouTube.  Promise me you will listen to it till the end.  It says that China has the biggest execution rate in the whole world.  And the most common way they execute is by firearm.  They also kill more journalists than any other country.  Please listen to the video.  It is about 10 minutes long.  But it states the abuses of China, such as imprisonment, torture, forced abortion and genocide of babies, and harvesting of human organs for sale.  The persons are often still alive and not anesthetized when their organs are harvested. The organs are sold on the black market.  Those are only SOME of the violations.  I challenge you to listen to the entire video.
Finally, you are right.  The Eucharist is our Hope and our Peace.  The Lord is our Hope and our Peace.
