*In late 2006 the council had a meeting with officials from the National Office of the BSA, to talk about issues of Muslims in the scouting program. Becasue of this meeting a committee made up of African American community and religious leaders will be formed to help bring the scouting program back to the community.
The council works withinthe Islamic Community to bring the scouting program to the Islamic Community. The council's Chief Commissioner is a member of the National Relationship (Religious) Committee.The Religious Office for the council is, located in The Commonwealth of Virginia, the Chief Council Imam is Imam Vernon M. Fareed. The council is Affliated With The (MOSQUE CARES PROJECT), which is headed by Imam W. D. Mohammed.
We take part in interfaith events to allow people of other faiths to receive a clear understanding of Islam, we also have a scout (Religious Awards Program.) The council takes part in community services projects in many cities and travels to help form new scouting units and takes part in scouting events. The council has won the following
Three (3) of our most outstanding units are the historical Islamic Sea Scouts Ship - 671 SSS."Dhuha" Virginia - Troop 007 of New York which is sponsored by the historical Masjid Malcolm Shabazz - and Troop 1517 Masjid Muhammad, Washington, DC who's scoutmaster serves as the Chief Scoutmaster for the council and has been in scouting since the early 1970's

The National Council On Islamic Scouting sponsors as it's primary scouting unit (The Islamic Sea Scouts) Ship 671 whichis assigned to the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk,VA. The ship is ranked as an International Sea Scout Ship, and the council has a 8 member staff with members located in different states. The council as well as the ship has be the recipients of many awards from the President Of The United States, U. S. Congress, state and local leaders. The ship has received grants from Boat US, Chesapeake Bay Foundation*.
