A Ray of Hope" described as the "Pride of London".
The event to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the United Nations in the presence of Her Majesty, The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, in St. Paul's Cathedral on Monday, 24th October, 2005 was a memorable occasion. Representatives from many nations of the world gave thanks for the endeavours of the United Nations all wishing that our earth would be a global milieu for peace.
"A Ray of Hope" thanks Rt. Hon. Mr. Tony Blair Prime Minister and Mrs. Blair, Rt. Hon Lord Ashdown KBE, Rt. Hon. Michael Howard QC MP Leader of the Conservative Party, Rt. Hon Charles Kennedy Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Mr. Charles Clarke Secretary of State to the Home Office, Lord Michael Ancram MP for giving of their precious time to speak to the children before the service of commemoration. Tony Blair has attended a special service of thanksgiving and rededication to mark the 60th anniversary of the United Nations.
The ceremony, held in St Paul's Cathedral, saw a gathering of almost all the Ambassadors and High Commissioners in London - and dozens of lord mayors and civic representatives from across the UK.
Representatives of all major faiths were present including the Ray of Hope Choir, made up of Northern Irish schoolchildren from across the religious spectrum.

NI choir join Queen at UN event
A Northern Ireland choir will perform in front of the Queen during a London service to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the United Nations.
A Ray of Hope, UNESCO youth ambassadors for the culture of peace, will sing at the event in St Paul's Cathedral.
Lessons will be read by the Duke of Edinburgh and Prime Minister Tony Blair during the event attended by representatives of 150 countries.
Choir director Don McBurney said they were delighted to be taking part.

LONDON: UN Day service at St Paul’s Cathedral. Her Majesty the Queen will lead a service of thanksgiving to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the United Nations in St Paul’s Cathedral on United Nations Day, Monday 24 October, at three o’clock. The Prime Minister will read a lesson and the Bishop of London, the Rt Rev Richard Chartres, will give the sermon. Lord Ashdown, High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, will contribute a short reflection. A Ray of Hope, a choir from schools of different denominations in Northern Ireland will sing together for the first time since the Good Friday Agreement seven years ago.
The ‘Act of Commitment to the Future’ will use text from the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It will refer to the continuing work of the United Nations in working for peace and in the fields of Development, Justice and Human Rights.

UN 60th Anniversary Rededication Service
24 October (Monday 3pm) A service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations at St Paul's Cathedral. Her Majesty the Queen will be present and accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh. The Prime Minister will read a Lesson. Lord Ashdown, High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, will contribute a short reflection.
The Bishop of London will preach and the Dean of St Paul’s will lead the Act of Dedication and Commitment to the Future, a series of Readings using texts from the Preamble to the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Participants in the 1945 UN Preparatory Committee in London and young people will read these. The Cathedral Organist will compose an Antiphon to be sung between each reading. The Ray of Hope choir, pupils from Belfast schools of different denominations, will sing together for the first time since the Good Friday Agreement.
