Dancing In The Kitchen
Washing the dishes isn't the most enticing task for a housewife, but doing housework to music can lead to some pretty wonderful things....
While singing along with Waylon telling me not to let my babies grow up to be cowboys, I found myself washing a little faster and waxing a bit philosophical. I thought about my babies being cowboys and how cute they'd look in a pair of Wranglers out on the open range. I imagined a life of adventure and lonesome nights around the campfire with wolves howling a nighttime lullaby.
Suddenly, the song ended and I heard the strains of Alabama's song, "Forever Is As Far As I'll Go." To some, it's just a country song, to me, it's a reminder of the first dance I ever shared with Wayne. After that one dance, it became apparent that this was much more than a song.
On the night he proposed, this song was playing as he lowered himself to one knee and said those magical words, "Will you be my wife? Forever is as far as I'll go." For some reason, it's moments like this where those words aren't smarmy, but romantic.
That became our love song, our reminder in tough times that no matter what the circumstances are, forever is as far as we'll go.
So it was no big surprise when I suddenly felt two strong arms encircle me from behind and gently pull me onto our "dance floor" in the kitchen. As we swayed to the music, I found myself back in 1991, perched atop a 1985 Cutlass Supreme with tears in my eyes as I gazed at a diamond ring that was being slipped onto my finger. The arms that held me then, hold me now in an embrace that grows stronger and surer everyday.
I wish everyone could dance in their kitchen with the one they love. It's a beautiful thing.

Well this makes me not want to wash my dishes. I hope that one day I have what you have. You are lucky.

What a beautiful post Tara. I also wish that every person finds that other half of themselves, to find completeness and wholeness in loving another person unconditionally, to be in love with their best friend. There is nothing to compare with that when you have it. You and Wayne keep dancing...

That's a beautiful thing you two have! And I'd be willing to try the dancing in the kitchen-thing myslef, but I'm too scared of losing cool points. :-)
