Few days away..

The family goes home to Houston on Friday and I leave for Cuba the next day. I am already sad about being separated from them. I didn't get much sympathy for my many insect bites, and since some of you gloated over my pain instead of praying for me - many of them have become infected and I need to make a trip to the Doctor. One of our friends here who is a nurse was very bothered by the site of my festering wounds, said that I will have plenty of scars from them. What? Scars from insect bites?  There is nothing tough about that - I'm gonna say it was shark bites and they just happen to get me on every appendage as I was fighting my way out of a stranglehold. Some people think the festering wounds on my feet are a stigmata – that might be marginally more believable than a shark attack.

    Chris,

It's Tom Perez. Don't know if you will remember me; we met originally at Young Leaders Forum (Glen Eyrie) and last spoke over dinner in Glorietta. I'm not back in the NW; I've had my fill of Colorado Springs! But that's another longer story.

A quick question and I will let you go. Ministry is lonely. You know that, but its more lonely being a 45 year old pastor with a desire to be something more than a vendor of spiritual goods and services. Do you know of any folks in the Portland area who might be interested in befriending an old fat Cuban pastor? Seriously though I always appreciated the way you valued relationships and they're hard to come by these days. Seems like most of the guys my age have either given up on ministry all together, or are simply doing their job...or doing whatever they have to do to keep their job. This whole "Emergent" thing sounds really cool, but it still sounds like a young guy's fraternity and I'm too old to play with the young guys. When you can...if you can, please let me know your thoughts. You can email me at tomascrux@gmail.com.

How ironic! Your on a sabbatical...so am I (sort of; actually all I get is a week at a Montana Cabin!) I'm jealous; you going to Cuba. My dad was born and raised in Havana. I've never been! Never met family there...maybe some day.

Thanks Chris. I'd love to hear from you.
