On Dealing...

I'm not very big on writing anything that actually means something to me or that isn't dripping with sarcasm ,I highly doubt this is the right place to do this, but I think I need to do it. Very few people hear me talk about my dad, it's never been a particularly easy topic for me to talk about. The extent of our father-daughter relationship was a birthday we share and a few holidays throughout the year or a school function once in a while. At his funeral, everyone was crying over a man that touched their life in someway, but I couldn't shed a tear. I think people were looking at me like I had no heart, who doesn't cry at their own parents funeral? So much advice about taking it "one day at a time" was given to me, which just kind of left me speechless. My sister and I were spoken of quite often during his eulogies, "he was never happier than when he was with his girls" or "when he was found passed away, the only pictures by him were of his daughters". This honestly left me more confused, how come I had never known that side of my dad? There were also many stories of a church community that he was very apart of in the last 6 or 7 years. Another thing I never knew about him. A few weeks ago my uncle dropped off a few boxes of my dads possessions for my sister and I. I really appreciated going through these boxes, it provided more insight on his life. I also found small book about quotes about journeys that was dated the day I started college 8-22-02. Inside there was a short note written to me said, " Jenn, Life is a journey, not a destination, enjoy your journey. Love, Dad". At first I didn't understand why he never gave it to me. But I think it means a lot more to now than it ever would have back then. The regrets and anger that I carried most of my life about my dad are finally going away. In his death, I'm finally getting to know who my dad was.

I have been thinking about him a lot lately because our birthday is coming up. I don't know how it's going to feel this year to not celebrate our birthday together, just my birthday. I know I'll be looking for the call were we joked about whose birthday it was this year. I better celebrate big for him this year though, he loved his birthday and this year would have been his 50th.

I know wherever my Dad is, he is at peace. When he was found after he died he was wrapped in a blanket with his favorite Psalm, Psalm 23 embroidered into it. On the table next to him, his bible was also opened to that passage.

"BIG RED" POWERS) Age 49. December 31, 2007. Bill was born April 3, 1958 in Northampton, Massachusetts. He lived and worked in Dearborn most of his life, but remained a loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan throughout his life. Through his work at Powers Travel Agency, he was most honored to lead a travel group of WWII veterans from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division back to the beaches of Normandy for the 40th Anniversary of D-Day. He later enjoyed a career at Real Estate One where he was given the moniker, "Bill 'Big Red' Powers" due to his 6'6" stature. Bill leaves two daughters, Jennifer and Megan and their mother, Margaret Powers. Bill leaves his wife Kathleen Gibson and her children, Rory, Katie, and Kelly. He is survived by his mother, Ann L. Powers and brother, Martin; sisters, Catherine and Amy. Preceded in death by his father, William G. Powers, Jr. Sunday Service 3 p.m., January 6, 2008, at the Detroit World Outreach in Redford.

The happiest recent event was: a few weekends ago I saw the BEST 80's cover band ever, it was the most fun night ever!

I want to buy: a new outfit to wear out tomorrow night, its my new habit, I go out Saturday morning to buy a new outfit for that night....I need to stop

If you spent the night at my house: We'd get some really good carryout, watch movies all night and then i'd probably let you have my bed and i'd sleep on the couch because my bed is the best thing ever. whoever "you" are.

The world could do without: soda.

Most recent thing I’ve bought myself: last nights Saturday night outfit was these really hot jean capris, and a short black jacket thingie with one button, a pair of earrings and Coach sandals that were half off and they match my Coach bag (that was exciting)

Most recent thing someone else bought me: lol my mom bought my co-pays to the doctors office all week, before that though, my mom bought me a new duvet cover from Ikea.

My middle name is: Andrea. It works.

In the morning I: bang on my alarm for a half hour, wake up let the dogs out, take a shower, dry hair, put on makeup, decide what color scrubs i'm in the mood for, dress, eat breakfast, and run out the door 5 minutes late.

Last night I was: passing a kidney stone. I'll be alll set on never having to do that again

So about a week ago I was late for work and I was running across a median and stepped in a hole in the grass.

I managed to fracture my ankle and tear a tendon. Good job, right?

Much has changed in my life since the last time I've written. I graduated from my dentist assisting program and got a fabulous job at the dentist office I've been going to for 14 years. LoL, its like a real adult job with vacation time and full health benefits (never thought I'd be excited about health benefits). It is so great to get up every morning and go somewhere that makes you happy. For a long time I could never imagine myself finding a job that I wanted to do. I think I got really lucky. It is exactly what I wanted- I work long hours, Monday-Thursday from 8-8 and I pick up a friday once in a while, I am constantly busy which is perfect for me and the best part is I get to talk to and comfort people. It really fits my personality perfectly.

I think the job has given confidence that I lacked in my personal life for a long time, probably since I was a freshman in college. I've always had what I feel like is alot of awesome friends and i'm very outgoing, but I never really felt going out and doing things just because for me it was easier to stay at home. Now I go nuts if I don't go to dinner with my friends a few times a week and out at least once a weekend. That is a huge change for me.

With my new job, I decided to go ahead and get rid of the ol' college wheels and lease a new car. I leased a 2007 Impala, Navy Blue. Actually see above for a picture. I orginally wanted a G6, but I test drove this car and totally fell in love with it. I always HATED driving, but it's totally different when your driving a new car. It's super comfy.

Another big change that is coming up for me is my teeth! Yesterday at work I got my teeth cleaned and my dentist and I have been discussing getting 8 veneers on my upper front teeth since I got my braces off 3 years ago and we finally decided to go ahead and do them. I have always had an enamel defect and when I got my braces off my teeth just had no shine to them anymore so they almost have a yellow tinge to them, most on the top 4 though. That always made me really self concious because I have always taken super good care of my teeth. So I can't wait to get my teeth white and shiney again and get some spaces closed up! I will definetly posting some before and after pictures mid-summerish (i'm hoping sooner).

So other than that, I'm truely just loving my life and being 23. I'm going to TRY to start updating a few times a week.

I was reading this on "Myspace" and it is Sooooo true!!!!

They call it the "Quarter-Life Crisis."

It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realizing that there are many things about yourself that you didn't know and may not like. You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now. You start realizing that people are selfish and that , maybe, those friends that you thought you were so close to aren't exactly the greatest people you have ever met, and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones. What you don't recognize is that they are realizing that too, and aren't really cold, catty, mean or insincere, but that they are as confused as you. You look at your job…and it is not even close to what you thought you would be doing, or maybe you are looking for a job and realizing that you are going to have to start at the bottom and the scares you. Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging more than usual because suddenly you realize that you have certain boundaries in your life and are constantly adding things to your list of what is acceptable and what isn't. One minute, you are insecure and then the next, secure. You laugh and cry with the greatest force in your life. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy and you try to cling on to the past with dear life, but soon realize that the past is drifting further and further away, and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward. You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you. Or you lie in bed and wonder why you can't meet anyone decent enough that you want to get to know better. Or maybe you love someone but love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you know that you aren't a bad person. One night stands and random hook-ups start to look cheap. Getting wasted and acting like an idiot starts to look pathetic. You go through the same emotions and questions over and over, and talk with you friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision. You worry about loans, money, the future and making a life for yourself…and while winning the race would be great now, you'd just like to be a contender. What you may not realize is that everyone reading this relates to it. We are in our best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard as we can to figure this whole thing out.

So, I am offically done with school (since last Thursday).....FOREVER!!!! I had a fantastic semester. I took 30 credit hours between 2 schools and I got a 98.8 % average with my dental assisting classes (which was the big majority of my 30 credit hours), I got a 102% average in World Relgions and a 95% in Econ. I was actually pretty proud of myself. It was getting so hard towards the end though, I was sveo tired mentally and even physically. I've caught up on ALOT of sleep this past week. Today is the first day I feel really energized. I'm really deep cleaning every room in my house for my mom. She's been working like a crazy lady 13 hours a day sometimes 7 days a week....Speaking of working....I GOT A JOB!!!! I had an interview a with a dentist on Tuesday and she was wonderful. Her office was very modern and she was just really sweet lady. Her dog comes to work with her, which was like the complete seller for me. I had 3 more dentists call me, but I decided to go with her. So I start January 3rd, which I'm thrilled about because I get a full winter break. So this year, 2006 is the first year I feel like i actually got something accomplished with my life and it feels pretty damn good. So next year I'm tackling losing some weight and maybe find me a potiental husband....haha.....but losing weight for sure....It's kind of easy to take things one year at a time. lol. Anyways.....I feel like doing a survey....

What was one of the worst? I think before my parents got divorced and we lived with my dad still haunts me pretty bad.

Have you ever thought you were going to die?: When I was 17 I was in a car accident and broke my upper right arm and I think that was about the most miserable and painful 3 months of my life
