Feeling Chillin'

My fun night out

My neice babysat for us lastnight so we could go out. We haven't had a babysitter so we could go out in probably a yr and a half, so it felt really weird. First we went to BJs and did some shopping. We kept looking around for the kids, and in the car we kept turning around to see why they were so quiet. LOL

We tried to find somewhere nice to eat but everyplace was packed, like an hour wait to be seated. So we went to denny's. We got seated almost right away, got our drinks about 10 mins later, appitizers maybe 15 mins after that. Unusually slow service and by then the dining room was pretty cleared out. An hour later we still didn't have our dinners, but a couple who came in after us with 4 children had been served their appitizers, dinners and were getting ready to leave. I have never waited an hour and a half at denny's for my food! So we called the waitress over and told her we had to go our babysitter had to get home and we needed the check.

I have waitressed and i know it isn't easy but i loved it, the job and the customers. But you don't blame and make excuses. You do the job, apologoze if something happens, smile. All our waitress did was blame the cook, blame the other waitresses, blame the customers because there had been an unexpected rush...etc. she probably gave us about 10 excuses for why we didn't have our food. Not professional and really not what we wanted to hear.

Someone else started making rounds in the dining room apologizing to customers for the long wait. We then explained we had been waiting for 5 mins for our check. She went to see what was going on ~ seems the waitress had failed to put in our dinner order until we had finished our appitizers so it was her mistake all along. We ended up getting our drinks and appitizers on the house. Maybe if they had thrown in the meals too then we would have stayed, but we were glad to leave. A lot of unhappy customers in that restraunt.

Tomorrow we're going to try and go out for lunch but i think we'll go someplace else this time.

Why is that they always blame the cook? I cooked and we always got the food out but if the waitress's didn't turn in a "pocket" ticket, it's hard to fix it. Sorry your night wasn't all that it was planned for but at least you got out together, just the two of you. :-) Hugs Lanny

I know what you mean about Denny's! They have gotten better over the past few years, but there was a time it was a common joke that you would be waiting for hours for your meal. And, I waitressed too for a time, and that was rude of your waitress to blame everyone but herself! Hope you didn't leave her a tip! Although, being a former waitress, I am sure you at least left her the "you suck" few pennies! LOL!
